Spencerville Fire Station

Canterbury Commercial

The Spencerville Fire Station project consisted of a 430m2 new build with driveways, parking and landscaping. The IL4 structure is formed of steel and timber with a mix of cedar cladding and aluminium weatherboards, an impressive visual and low maintenance.

When our Canterbury team took possession of the greenfield site, land remediation had already been done. This consisted of a one-meter gravel compacted raft, and the innovative system designed to hold the formwork in the compacted gravel expedited the works. An archaeological order was also placed on the site requiring any new excavations in the undisturbed ground to be notified to iwi and anthropologists.

Challenges to the project included Covid -19 and the subsequent lockdowns. Although initially slowed in momentum during lockdown, the team worked hard to deliver a project that came under budget and was delivered to programme once back on site.

The client, Fire and Emergency NZ were very satisfied with the quality of works, offering their appreciation to our local team. Notably, the local volunteer brigade was invited to the station roof shout. All volunteer personal in attendance and were given an early preview of their new facilities.
