New Build on a Historical Site
Post Masters is a boutique development that features six tenancies for hospitality businesses and office tenants, and all are fitted out with kitchenettes and bathroom amenities.
Cook Brothers Construction was also contracted for the design and build of some of the tenant fit-outs at the same time as the main build was taking place. The total area covers approximately 700m2, plus a large landscaped courtyard for tenants to enjoy.
The building’s design incorporated elements of its scenic Arrowtown surrounds with the use of stack schist rock, cedar, iron, concrete block, and solid plaster cladding, and was to inhabit the site of the original Postmasters house, built in the 1800s. It was one of only two historic sites in the Wakatipu Basin with a heritage covenant over them, which meant that considerable archaeological works were required prior to any construction getting underway. Cook Brothers Construction worked closely with the Arrowtown Heritage Committee to make sure these works were accounted for in the build programme.
