Cook Brothers Construction undertook the Stage 2 Christchurch YMCA city redevelopment project. The central site is bordered by Rolleston Ave, Cashel St and is in close proximity to the Botanic Gardens, Canterbury Museum, and the Art Centre.

The scope of works included the construction of the new three-level, circa 4000m2 multi-purpose building including a heart reception and entrance, café, youth spaces, licensed pre-school, tenant spaces, health & fitness, Black Box Theatre (some existing FF&E to be recycled), dance and movement studios, administration spaces, meeting, and conference spaces. Works include landscaping & car parking area surrounding the new building.

The new building is to integrate with the existing building, which houses the YMCAs accommodation (Hotel Give) and the 4C Centre – a tech centre for young people. The project, won by Cook Brothers Canterbury, was a part of the Government’s shovel-ready scheme, and the team have worked hard to bring the new space to life. The development provides new facilities and sources of income for the foundation, previously known as the Christchurch YMCA.
