Chokebore Lodge

Canterbury

Our Canterbury team is proud to have completed the restoration of  Chokebore Lodge, one of Christchurch's oldest domestic buildings, first built in 1856. It was a celebrated racing stable, which the Christchurch City Council now owns.

As part of this unique project, our team learned how to make cob bricks (clay, hay and water) to restore this traditional cob cottage, including re-mixing in some of the original bricks.

They tried to retain the lodge's original appearance as much as possible while bringing it up to new building standards. Including repairing gable walls and adding timbers into a Tudor-style batten and Helifix ties to provide additional strengthening and reinforcement.

Restoring the historic racing lodge for future generations.
